Little Rock Nine

I'm sure I had heard of this before, but it didn't hit home until we were here. When desegregation was decreed by the Supreme Court, the Arkansas governor didn't want to disappoint his constituents, so he called out the National Guard to keep black students out of Little Rock Central High. President Eisenhower told the governor he couldn't use the Nation Guard this way and sent in the 101st Airborne to escort the nine black students. Central High is still an active school and there is a National Park across the street with audio clips from news at the time and reflections of the Little Rock Nine as adults. Amazing stories. The school building appears amazing, but also showing its age.
